Hi, Iβm Karen.
I work with adults, young adults and older teens including members of the LGBTQ+ community. My practice is rooted in empathy, compassion, trust and safety. I encourage you to show up exactly as you are, whatever that looks like for you today, and we can figure out together how to help you feel better.
When working with me, you can expect to feel respected and cared for, as well as challenged when appropriate. I like to help people make meaningful change, to love themselves deeper, and to care for themselves in new ways.
I use various counselling modalities in a flexible and creative way. I will incorporate IFS (parts work), attachment theory, somatic work, and person-centred counselling, and draw from ACT, and CBT as well.
I have two decades of experience in the field of education. I have a Bachelor of Arts with a major in English and a Bachelor of Education, and for 10 years I owned and operated a childcare business. I am fascinated by the topics of neuroplasticity and how the brain and body respond to both trauma and healing. Pursuing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology has allowed me to deepen this knowledge.
Outside of work, you can find me walking my dogs, making art, tending to my large and ever-growing collection of house plants and hanging with my husband and two teenagers.
I would be happy to connect through a 15-20 minute phone call to see if I might be the right fit for you!
